Sarah Harding originally offered lesbian role

Sarah Harding was originally in talks to play a lesbian in 'Coronation Street'.

The former Girls Aloud singer revealed that when she met the show's bosses to discuss potential roles in the ITV soap, they settled on the part of a romantic love interest for Sophie Webster (Brooke Vincent ) who would come between her and then-girlfriend Maddie Heath (Amy Kelly).

Sarah told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We just threw a load of ideas out there. At one point I was going to possibly come between the lesbian girls but it didn't happen."

However, whilst Maddie was killed off in a dramatic fire back in June, the blonde beauty was instead cast as the wife of Tracy Barlow's first husband Robert Preston and the star confessed that she had to put the feisty character in her place on her very first day on set.

Sarah said: "I had a slanging match on my very first day! I had to give Tracy a good slap.

"Every time they shouted cut I would be giggling because [actress] Kate [Ford] is so lovely and the complete opposite to her character.

"It was all choreographed to look nasty but I didn't actually touch her.

"My character isn't a baddie, but she also isn't very nice."
