Samuel L. Jackson to be honoured at BET Awards
Samuel L. Jackson will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BET Awards on Sunday (26Jun16).
The 67-year-old has had a stellar career spanning more than 40 years and including hit films like Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained with director Quentin Tarantino, and roles in major movie franchises including Star Wars and Marvel's Avengers films.
On Sunday, (26Jun16), Samuel's contribution to the big screen will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the star couldn't be more thrilled.
"It’s an honour to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 BET Awards later this month,” he said in a statement. “I’m humbled to be recognised by my peers and to join the company of the exemplary recipients before me.”
In the past the award has gone to musicians, such as the late Whitney Houston, singer Chaka Khan and Lionel Richie, but this year marks the first time an actor has received the accolade.
Meanwhile Grey's Anatomy actor Jesse Williams will receive the Humanitarian Award for his activism in several social campaigns, including Black Lives Matter.
"Jesse has proven to be a true pioneer of our generation," a statement from a network representative read. "(He) is a refreshing new face of activism during a time of crisis in this country."
The BET Awards will be hosted by Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross with musical performances from Usher, Desiigner, Future, Bryson Tiller, Alicia Keys, and Maxwell.
The ceremony will take place at the Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater.
