Sam Smith: Becks for Bond!

Sam Smith thinks David Beckham would make a "fit" James Bond.

Earlier this month, the British singer finally confirmed he's behind the Spectre theme tune, Writing's on the Wall. And when asked what he'd make of the former soccer player taking over from Daniel Craig when he retires from the role, he sounded impressed.

"That would be interesting, that's all I'll say - that would be very interesting. He'd look fit for sure! He looks amazing in a suit," he grinned to the British edition of OK! magazine.

Sam, 23, follows in the footsteps of some pretty iconic singers, with Madonna and Adele previously lending their vocals to Bond soundtracks. While he did chat to Adele when he went through surgery on his vocal cords earlier this year (the 27-year-old faced a similar procedure in 2011), he says he didn't talk to the Skyfall singer about his 007 appointment.

Maybe he could do with discussing the project, as he's still trying to get his head around it all.

"It's amazing to be on the list alongside people such as Nancy Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Madonna and Adele. I genuinely sit and look at the Bond Wikipedia page all the time, just trying to figure out how I got on there," the stunned star said.

"I just hope I do the film justice. You want your music to last forever, and Bond lasts forever, so that's all I can ask for."

He added that he's kept things "classic and traditional", as that's the only way to approach a Bond song.

Writing's on the Wall will be released on September 25, while Spectre hits cinemas from October.
