Ryan Reynolds: I have no life plan
Actor Ryan Reynolds has surrendered to not knowing that the future holds.
The 38-year-old actor has a busy schedule ahead with three films in the pipeline, including Marvel's Deadpool. While his personal life is settled with his wife Blake Lively and their daughter James, born in December (14), Ryan's career is still full of surprises.
“No, no, no. I really don’t have any immediate or long-term plans, actually, to be perfectly frank. I’ve sort of, in a great way, kind of surrendered to the idea that it’s just gonna be the way it’s gonna be," he explained to America's GQ magazine when asked if he's still looking for stability. "And I’m gonna work as hard as I’ve always worked. Even on movies that didn’t work, I’ve worked really, really hard. And all the people around you are working really, really hard. But sometimes that creates dysfunction."
Ryan can at least feel reassured that Deadpool is bound to be a hit with fans of the original comic book. He plays the title character Wade Wilson, who is left with accelerated healing powers following a rogue experiment.
The Definitely, Maybe star describes landing the role as a dream come true, especially after his previous involvement in a superhero flick. His 2011 film Green Lantern proved to be a box office flop, but Ryan didn't let that hold him back this time.
"Deadpool was different because there wasn’t a big budget attached to it. There was not a tremendous responsibility to meet some kind of bottom line," he added. "Those kinds of superhero movies when you’re out front, there’s a vast and quite frightening budget attached to them. This one had a super-reasonable budget, and it was subversive and a little bit different, and to me a little refreshing in the comic-book world."
