Richard Simmons admitted to hospital for 'bizarre behaviour' - report
Fitness guru Richard Simmons was reportedly rushed to hospital Friday (3June16) night after exhibiting bizarre behaviour.
The 67-year-old has sparked concern for his welfare in recent years, as he has entirely removed himself from the public spotlight in favour of spending time alone.
And according to TMZ, a visitor at his Hollywood Hills home became so unsettled by his "unusually strange" conduct on Friday, the guest was prompted to call 911 to seek help from emergency authorities. Paramedics allegedly rushed to his residence, and upon arrival, the health professionals suggested Simmons be taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for evaluation, which he agreed to.
Los Angeles Fire Department representatives have confirmed to Entertainment Tonight paramedics did respond to a call placed from Simmons' home just before midnight, and a person at the residence was indeed taken to hospital in an ambulance, but they declined to reveal the individual's identity.
Although Simmons' representative has been contacted, it is unknown whether he is still receiving treatment at the medical centre.
The exercise legend has not been seen in public for at least two years and his relative seclusion prompted The New York Daily News newspaper to launch an investigation into his whereabouts following reports suggesting he was being deliberately kept from his friends and family by his longtime live-in housekeeper Teresa Reveles.
After the paper published their findings in an article in March (16), Simmons slammed the piece, telling Entertainment Tonight during a phone interview the write-up was "very hurtful".
"I am not kidnapped," he insisted in a chat that took place the same month the article was published. "I am just in my house right now. No one should be worried about me. The people that surround me are wonderful people who take great care of me.
"I love all the people who worry about me. But it was time for me to take some time to be by myself. This is how I want to live my life right now. And to all the people that are worried about me, please don't be. If I was in any trouble, if I was hurting in any way, I would reach out. It is time right now for Richard Simmons to take care of Richard Simmons."
