Reese Witherspoon's life has been completely "transformed" for the better since marrying husband Jim Toth.

The couple will celebrate its fifth anniversary on 26 March (16) and a source close to the Legally Blonde star, who also turns 40 on Tuesday (22Mar16), insists the actress couldn't be happier.

"Since marrying Jim, Reese is transformed," the insider tells People magazine. "Even now, she often gets giddy when she talks about him. They very much complement each other."

"Jim is a great dad, stepdad and husband," the family friend adds. "He is her rock."

Reese and 45-year-old talent agent Jim are parents to three-year-old son Tennessee, while the actress also shares 16-year-old daughter Ava and 12-year-old boy Deacon with her first husband, Cruel Intentions co-star Ryan Phillippe. The former couple divorced in 2007 after eight years of marriage.

The blonde beauty previously gushed about how thankful she was to have found love again, as juggling her career while running a household as a single mum proved to be draining beyond belief.

"I was hard on myself when I got divorced," she told Marie Claire magazine in 2011. "And until I got remarried, I don't think I realised how stressed I was. I don't think I recognised how anxious I was about being a single parent.

"Now I feel a great sense of relief and an incredible amount of support from my husband. I got very lucky, and he's wonderful. And so wonderful with my children. I'm very blessed."

Reese has continued to share her joy over family life by posting snaps on Instagram, including a shot of a sunset on a beach in Malibu on Wednesday (16Mar16).

"Does it get any better than this?... #GoldenHour," she captioned the idyllic image.

Paparazzi photos of Reese's outing also captured a sweet moment between mother and daughter, as the actress looked out to the ocean while Ava hugged mum from behind. Another candid picture showed little Tennyson playing in the sand nearby.
