Rebel Wilson: 'Education is key'
Rebel Wilson would advise any up-and-coming actors to get a good education.
The Australian star, 35, was a relative latecomer to Hollywood, but there was no stopping her after she appeared in 2011 comedy Bridesmaids. Since then she's impressed in funny flicks like Pitch Perfect and Bachelorette, winning over fans with her perfect comedic timing.
Rebel also worked hard to at school, getting a law degree under her belt, and insists anyone else looking to go into the movie business should do the same.
"Get a good education," she told Britain's OK! magazine of her top tip. "The entertainment industry is a very uncertain, risky career path and, realistically, the likelihood of making a full career out of it is small. If you have a good education, then you always have something to fall back on."
While Rebel doesn't think she will ever need her "Plan B" law degree, she does see it as a very useful skill to have in the bank.
Clearly a level-headed role model, the star recently helped mentor a new Australian actress. It was the help she received when she first started out that inspired her to pass it on.
"It was incredibly tough, but I was mentored by some amazing people," she recalled. "One of the first women who was really nice to me in Hollywood was Amy Poehler. When I first came to America I was no one, yet she agreed to meet me at Chateau Marmont and give me some advice."
During her chat with Amy, Rebel was told it was important to come up with original content. The 44-year-old star advised her to write her own roles if she wanted to find the right ones for her.
"Luckily I am a writer/performer so I have the skill set to do it, but it was really good to hear something like that straight off the bat," she smile.
