Pregnant Kerry Washington vows to be back on Scandal set in July
Pregnant Kerry Washington won't be letting her unborn baby get in the way of her summer return to the set of Scandal, assuring fans she'll be back in character in July (16).
The actress, who is expecting baby number two accepted the SAG-AFTRA Foundation's Actors Inspiration Award on Monday (13Jun16), and told U.S. news show Entertainment Tonight that although she's enjoying a break from the drama she can't wait to see what Olivia Pope does next.
"I'll be going back to work in July," she said. "I'll be waddling my way around OPA (Olivia Pope & Associates). Don't worry."
The news will be a relief for fans of the hit TV series, who feared the pregnancy and Kerry's announcement she would be taking some time away from social media this summer was a hint she was planning to take an extended hiatus.
Meanwhile, the actress admits she couldn't be more excited to become a mum again - because she was a single child.
"I look a little curvier than usual," Washington told ET. "I look blessed... We're all really excited. We'll see how it all plays out. I'm an only child, so I'm like, 'What's this going to be like?' But I think it's going to be great."
The 39-year-old actress already has a two-year-old daughter, called Isabelle, with her husband, former football star Nnamdi Asomugha.
Unfortunately, her return to the limelight at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation event on Monday came two days after a deadly shooting in Orlando, Florida, where 49 people were killed.
The socially-conscious actress was appalled by gunman Omar Mateen' actions after he opened fire in a gay nightclub.
Kerry told Extra, "It’s so devastating, what happened in Orlando, and I just wonder what it’s going to take for us to create some real reform around gun control in this country.
"My heart just goes out to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) community. It’s not OK for there to be such acts of hate, it’s inexcusable... It's also scary to me that you can put somebody on a no-fly list, but that same person can walk into a store and buy a gun."
