Pitbull emotional as he receives Hollywood Walk of Fame star
Rapper Pitbull grew emotional on Friday (15Jul16) as he unveiled his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Timber hitmaker, real name Armando Christian Perez, was honoured with the 2,584th pavement plaque as pals including his mentor and first record label boss Luther 'Uncle Luke' Campbell, frequent collaborator Lil Jon, and motivational speaker Tony Robbins, turned out to celebrate his career achievement.
Fans packed the sidewalk around Celia Cruz square, an area dedicated to one of Pitbull's musical idols, and the 35-year-old was clearly moved by the outpouring of love.
He told the crowd, "I use these platforms to speak to you all and for you all to understand that for me, it's never been about money, it's never been about fame - it's been about a journey... It's about our culture. It's about coming from nothing to something. It's about being the prime example of what the American dream is and what it embodies."
In a message to his gathered fans, Pitbull continued, "To be up here it just goes to show what happens when you're focused, when you work hard, when you believe in yourself, and when you go against all odds. And if there's on thing I never understood it's no. Losing to me is just another opportunity and failure to me is just another lesson learned."
The father of six made sure to thank his children, who he has famously kept out of the spotlight, insisting: "I don't want them to be a part of the life I signed up for, but I love them dearly."
But he saved the biggest compliment for his mother, Alysha Acosta, who helped Pitbull turn his life around after he began selling drugs in his youth.
"I want to say thank you to my mother because she taught me one thing, it's the most important thing in life, she taught me how to survive," he said. "To teach them how to go against all odds and see that nothing could stop them as long as they believe in themselves and do right by others."
Pitbull later shared a photo of himself posing beside his new award on Twitter.com and he couldn't contain his excitement.
"What an honor to receive my star on the #hollywoodwalkoffame thanks to all the fans," he exclaimed.
