Years and Years frontman Olly Alexander's relationship with Clean Bandit violinist Neil Amin-Smith is "going really well".

The 24-year-old singer has revealed he and the 'Rather Be' hitmaker want to be "open about their relationship" so that young people can feel more comfortable coming out, and are making it work despite their hectic schedules.

Olly said: "It's going really well. Both our schedules are mental, but we're good at flying to a different country just to spend one night together.

"It's important if you're young and gay to see people in the public eye at the top of their game who are gay, too. Me and Neil talk about that a lot. It's one of the reasons we wanted to be open about our relationship. It's important for young people to see that you can be in a happy, functional relationship. When I was young, I didn't know any gay couples."

The 'King' star went on to insist that he wasn't always so lucky in love, and confessed a "lowlight" for him was when he was seeing a man who was already in a serious relationship with someone else.

Speaking to The Sunday Times' Style magazine, Olly said: "I didn't know to begin with, but when I found out, I was like, 'Well, I'm just going to keep on doing this because I want this person to choose me, to fall in love with me.'

"We had this blazing row by Chalk Farm tube station. I was screaming on the street, in floods of tears, crouched on the floor sobbing, and I walked all the way back from Chalk Farm back to Hammersmith, for four hours. That was a lowlight."
