Melanie Griffith: 'I have a whole new horizon to conquer'
Actress Melanie Griffith has a "whole new horizon to conquer" following her divorce.
The 58-year-old split from Antonio Banderas in June, 2014 after 18 years of marriage, and Melanie is still adjusting to life as a single, mature woman.
"I've just recently gotten divorced so I have a whole new horizon to conquer," she confessed to Elle.com, "(but) I have four kids - they're 19 to 33 - that I love more than anything."
When she isn't spending time with her offspring, which includes Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson, Melanie is reforging her acting career. While she was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe for her star turn in 1988's Working Girl, motherhood has stopped her from taking on major roles in recent years, and so she finds it funny when people are reminded of her acting range.
"It's a different thing being a woman of my age and working," she explained, "and especially after taking a lot of time off to raise my kids. Now getting back to work is a whole other challenge. It's actually sweet and funny at the same time.
"People go, 'Wow, you're a really good actress.' And I go, 'Well, yeah. I worked forever. I know what I'm doing and I love what I do. So, thank you?' People forget very easily in this business. They have a short memory."
Melanie will soon be seen in three different projects and, while they are smaller roles, she is thrilled to be back doing what she loves.
"I've been doing lots of different things," she added. "I did one little thing with Jon Voight, one little thing with James Franco. I'm getting to do a bunch of different things and I'm having such a blast. They're little parts, but there's an old saying: 'There are no small parts. Only small actors'."
