Matthew Perry defends 'dorky' Batman room
Matthew Perry insists his Batman room is “cool”, not “dorky”.
Recent reports claimed the comedy star had an “epic” Batman collection in his Hollywood home, filled with everything from movie posters to figurines. But while Matthew, 47, confirmed its existence during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday evening (12Oct16) the actor hit out at accusations that he's a geek.
“I like the Christian Bale version (The Dark Knight trilogy), I really got into that and I’m an insomniac, so in the middle I’d just go on eBay and buy all this Batman stuff and just throw it in a room. But, I want to point out, it’s not dorky. It’s actually a cool Batman room,” Matthew explained.
“No (people don’t give me stuff), they just call me bored and spoiled. No, no (there’s nothing valuable), it’s really the Christian Bale series of Batman.”
Quizzed further on why he has memorabilia such as crayons, Matthew jokingly confessed that he was in fact the Caped Crusader. Playing along, Jimmy teased that the actor being Batman would be the “only potential reason” for him to have a room dedicated to the superhero, laughing that he must be spending all his money from hit TV show Friends on the gear.
“If I have to dash off instantly during the interview, I have to fight crime,” Matthew grinned.
The star also spoke briefly about his current small screen hit The Odd Couple, which first aired in February 2015 and is returning for a third series on CBS on 17 October (16). Actress Teri Hatcher is returning after a brief appearance as Matthew’s onscreen love interest at the beginning of the second season, but Jimmy pointed out there’s a problem with their relationship. Teri played Superman’s love interest Lois Lane in 90s show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, but in 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the two superheroes are enemies.
“We’ve talked a lot about that,” Matthew smiled about working with Teri. “If I ever lived with a woman that room would be gone. She’s just say, ‘No Batman room. This is my office.’ I found it late in life.”
