Matthew Lewis chased by angry cows on location
Matthew Lewis, Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke feared they'd be crushed to death by cows while filming Me Before You.
Matthew, 26, stars opposite fellow Brits Sam and Emilia in the heartfelt drama, about a recently paralysed man who falls in love with his carer. While on location in Wales the trio decided to explore the countryside one evening, but their adventure went too far when they stumbled across a field of cows who were "unhappy" about the stars rambling across their turf.
"Basically, slowly at first, they edged towards us. It was quite early on when we realised, 'Okay, these guys are still coming,' and they got faster and faster and then they started to charge for us," Matthew recalled to Interview magazine, adding that Emilia had to have a piggyback from Sam as she didn't have the right shoes on when running through brambles.
"Next thing you know, 'Moo!', these cows are following us right through into the brambles as well. They really wanted to get to us. Eventually we got away and it was all fine but there was a brief point there where it was a bit touch and go. I remember what Sam said, because nobody knew that we were out - we sort of snuck out from the hotel - and he said, 'Imagine the headline tomorrow when they find our bodies. ‘The Mother of Dragons, Finnick, and Neville: Crushed to Death by Cows in Wales.'' That would've been an interesting one."
Emilia plays Daenerys Targaryen, known as the Mother of Dragons, in hit TV series Game of Thrones, while Sam played hero Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games franchise and Matthew portrayed Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter film series. Sam and Matthew shared a funny snap from the moment on Instagram, showing the three of them posing in a field.
Me Before You is based on author Jojo Moyes' best-selling book, with Matthew taking on the part of Patrick, who previously dated Emilia's character Louise before she fell for Will (Sam) while looking after him.
