Maisie Williams thanks mother every single day for her success

Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams is eternally grateful to her mother for allowing her to follow her acting dreams.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed immense success thanks to her role as Arya Stark in the hit HBO series, and her hard work paid off last week (ends15Jul16) when she scored an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

But Maisie knows none of it would have been possible without the love and support of her mother Hilary, and in a new interview with People magazine, the actress revealed just how much of a role model her mum is to her.

"She gave me the gift and gave me her blessing to do what I want with my life," she explained. "To be like, 'OK... you're going to do this and we're going to prove them all wrong,' rather than, you know, making me stay in school. And I'm still educated, I've still got everything I need in life, I thank her every single day."

Maisie is even more grateful for her mother's belief in her talents, considering Hilary has faced a number of battles in her life, including breast cancer, and realises it would have been so much easier for her to make her daughter stay in school than pursue a career in the often fickle world of acting.

"She's so caring and so lovely, but knowing her history and her past - she hasn't been dealt the best hand in life, and there's been a lot of things that have gone very against her," she continued. "She has survived many, many times... survived relationships, survived breast cancer and constantly is just trying to do more to help other people."

As a thank you for her support, Maisie will take her mother as her date to the Emmys in September, and it will surely be an exciting night for both of them if the news of her nomination is anything to go by.

Maisie recalled how they both found out at the same time during a FaceTime conversation, with Hilary screaming with excitement for 30 seconds as her daughter remained in stunned silence.

"I was just so happy and couldn't quite believe it really - I still can't believe it," she added. "And it was amazing to share that moment with my mum. She was crying."

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on 18 September (16).
