Mad Max leads Critics' Choice nominations

Mad Max: Fury Road is leading the 21st Annual Critics’ Choice Awards 2016 nominations with an impressive 13 nominations.

George Miller's post-apocalyptic flick has already landed Golden Globe and SAG nods, and is now up for awards such as best picture, best action movie and best sci-fi/horror film at next year's (16) Critics’ Choice ceremony. In the best picture category it faces competition from the likes of Spotlight, Carol and Room, while frontman Tom Hardy is in the running for actor in an action film. He'll be battling it out against Daniel Craig in Spectre, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation's Tom Cruise, Chris Pratt for Jurassic World and Ant-Man hero Paul Rudd.

In the best actor film category, Eddie Redmayne has received another nod for his portrayal of transgender artist Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl. Also in the running is Bryan Cranston, Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender and Johnny Depp.

The best actress category features Cate Blanchett, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence, Charlotte Rampling, Saoirse Ronan and Charlize Theron, who scored one of the nods for Mad Max: Fury Road.

The TV nominations are just as impressive, with FX show Fargo scoring eight nods. These include best movie made for TV or limited series, Patrick Wilson in the best actor in a movie made for TV or limited series and Kirsten Dunst in the actress counterpart.

Empire, The Leftovers and Mr. Robot are just three of the programmes that received nods in best drama series, while best comedy series contenders included the likes of Catastrophe, Jane the Virgin and Black-ish.

The annual ceremony will take place on Sunday 17 January 2016 in Santa Monica, California.
