Mad Max: Fury Road leads Critics' Choice Awards nominations

'Mad Max: Fury Road' leads the 2016 Critics' Choice Awards nominations.

The movie - starring Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy and Nicholas Hoult - has received 13 nods for the awards which will be held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica California on January 17.

The reboot has received a Best Picture nomination with other nods including Best Director for George Miller, Best Actress and Best Actress In An Action Movie for Charlize and Best Actor In An Action movie for Tom.

It has also received nominations for Cinematography, Production Design, Editing, Costume Design, Hair And Makeup, Visual Effects, Action Movie and Sci-Fi/Horror Movie.

'Carol', 'The Martian' and 'The Revenant' have each been nominated for nine awards at the ceremony which will be the first year that the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association have merged their awards.

'Spotlight' is up for eight awards, 'The Big Short' got seven and 'The Hateful Eight' has received six nominations.

Meanwhile, 'Fargo' has received eight nominations in the TV categories.

'The Leftovers' and 'Transparent' have six each, 'The Wiz Live!' received five nominations, and 'Black-ish', 'Mr. Robot' and 'Penny Dreadful' each got four.
