Leonardo DiCaprio: 'Girlfriend has to care about climate change'

Leonardo DiCaprio could never date someone who doesn't believe in climate change.

The Titanic star seems to have a penchant for model girlfriends, counting the stunning Bar Refaeli, Erin Heatherton and Toni Garrn among his exes. But it appears he lusts after brains as well as beauty, with the environmentally-friendly star opening up about what he looks for in a woman.

"I could never be with someone who doesn't believe in climate change," he assured Germany's TV Movie magazine.

Leonardo, 41, feels so strongly about the matter, he even gave a speech at the UN Climate Change Summit in 2014. He also runs the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, which describes itself as "dedicated to the long-term health and wellbeing of all Earth’s inhabitants".

"I believe humankind has looked at climate change in that same way: as if it were a fiction, happening to someone else’s planet, as if pretending that climate change wasn’t real would somehow make it go away," he argued during the UN summit.

However, Leonardo took a break from campaigning in order to ring in the New Year in style on Thursday (31Dec15). According to Billboard magazine, he hosted a blow-out bash in St. Barts, with Justin Bieber on hand to offer musical entertainment.

It's a well-deserved break for Leonardo, who has been busy promoting his new movie The Revenant, for which he's already received a Golden Globe nomination. It focuses on a frontiersman who's attacked by a bear and left for dead by his comrades.

"You feel the sweat, and the heat coming off the animal," Leonardo previously said of the harrowing scene. "It's almost like he awakens other senses within you as an audience member, and you feel like you're some voyeuristic animal watching something that you shouldn't be watching."
