Lena Dunham discharged from hospital
Actress Lena Dunham has been discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery for a ruptured ovarian cyst.
The Girls creator and star was admitted to an undisclosed medical centre on Saturday morning (05Mar16) after experiencing complications related to her battle with chronic gynaecological condition endometriosis.
"Lena Dunham has been very public with her personal bouts with endometriosis," her publicist, Cindi Berger, began in a statement released at the weekend.
"This morning, she suffered from an ovarian cyst rupture and has been taken to the hospital. Lena will be undergoing surgery at an undisclosed hospital. We thank you for you understanding and hope that Lena's privacy will be respected."
The 29-year-old has since been released from doctors' care and she returned to social media on Monday (07Mar16), when she shared a photo of a glittery sign with the phrase 'Good Vibes' and thanked fans for their support.
"Thank you so much for the love," she wrote on Instagram. "I'm safely out of the hospital and recuperating. Your well wishes mean the world. I can't wait to be up and active, and to show my thanks."
She signed off by adding, "always your girl, Lena".
The actress' hospitalisation occurred four months after she went public with her struggle with endometriosis, detailing her symptoms of non-stop vaginal bleeding, cramps and chronic exhaustion in an edition of her weekly newsletter, Lenny Letter.
The health crisis prompted Lena to pull out of promoting the final season of Girls in early February (16), after her doctors ordered her to rest, but she refuses to let the condition affect her dreams of one day starting a family.
Lena recently admitted she has no idea if her painful disorder will prevent her from having children naturally, but she has no problem with finding alternative ways to become a parent with boyfriend Jack Antonoff when the time is right.
"It's not important enough to me that my child come out of my body and it's not important to me, really at all, that the child belonged to Jack and me on a genetic level," she told legendary actress Jane Fonda in a recent interview for Paper magazine. "It's important to me that we have the right child for us and take the right kind of care of them."
The couple has been dating since 2012.
