Laura Prepon planning Annapurna Circuit hike
Actress Laura Prepon has set her sights on conquering the challenging Annapurna Circuit hike in Nepal after successfully climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
The Orange is the New Black star hiked her way up the highest mountain in Africa earlier this year (16), shortly after the March (16) release of her self-help book, The Stash Plan: Your 21-Day Guide to Shed Weight, Feel Great, and Take Charge of Your Health.
Laura admits she agreed to the adventure on a whim, and then was too busy promoting her diet and lifestyle guide to properly train for the trek.
"I didn't know anything about Kilimanjaro, I didn't know that it was just over 20,000 feet, I didn't know about the training we needed to do," she confessed on U.S. breakfast show Today.
Her hectic schedule left the actress with little time to prepare, and her lack of training showed as she fell ill while struggling to adjust to the lack of oxygen high above Tanzania.
"That's no joke," she said of the conditions atop Kilimanjaro. "I got pretty bad altitude sickness, but I was doing my book tour right before. I went to Kilimanjaro a week after I finished my book tour for The Stash Plan, and all my friends were like, 'You need to train', and I was like, 'I know, what am I gonna do?' So I got this oxygen tank that I can sleep in in my bedroom."
Prepon managed to make it to the top, and she's glad she pushed herself to succeed: "It was crazy, but it was worth it, fully worth it," she smiled. "I highly suggest it."
Now the 36-year-old is planning her next big climb, which will take her to Nepal.
"Next I wanna hike Annapurna sanctuary, which is basically very similar to (Mount) Everest base camp," she explained, before joking, "I don't know what my problem is, clearly I need a challenge all the time!"
Prepon did not set a time frame for the Annapurna Circuit trip, but she now has another life event to work her schedule around - she is engaged to actor Ben Foster.
The couple began dating in July (16) and made its red carpet debut at The Girl On The Train premiere in New York City on Tuesday (04Oct16), when Laura showed off a diamond engagement ring on her left ring finger.
She confirmed the happy news during a later appearance on Friday's (07Oct16) episode of Today, by simply replying "yes" when co-host Hoda Kotb briefly referenced the engagement.
