Kylie Jenner: 'I'm an inspiration'
Kylie Jenner considers herself a feminist.
The 18-year-old star has been in the public eye since she was a tot thanks to her family's reality television show Keeping Up With the Kardashians (KUWTK). In recent years though, she has found success with her clothing ranges with sister Kendall and her hugely popular "Lip Kits".
In a new interview with Glamour magazine, Kylie insists that it's her ability to find success on her own that makes her a feminist and a role model for other young women keen to follow in her footsteps.
Asked if she considers herself a feminist by the publication, Kylie answered: "I mean, of course I do, but I don't think I stand up in public that way a lot. Not that I don't feel things in my personal life, but yes: I do consider myself a feminist.
"I'm a young woman, for one thing, and I don't depend on a man or anybody else. I make my own money and start my own businesses, and I feel like I'm an inspiration for a lot of young girls who want to stand on their own."
Despite many people thinking she lives off her famous family, Kylie adds that she has survived off her own earnings for the past five years. She also dismissed claims she's frivolous with her money, insisting she has always been very careful about what she splashes out on.
"I haven't had a dollar of my mum's (Kris Jenner) money for five years," she said. "Ever since I started earning my own money, I've paid for everything: all my cars, houses, clothes, everything.
"I like to know exactly what's going on and I'm actually quite careful with what I spend. We all are as a family."
As well as being known through KUWTK, Kylie also keeps her fans updated with her daily activities on her various social media sites. Her Instagram page has nearly 60 million followers, thanks to the sexy pictures she frequently posts, but Kylie says she will eventually stop sharing everything on the site.
"I only show people what I want them to see. And in time, I think I'll just slowly start moving behind the scenes," she said. "KUWTK has to end eventually, and I'm not going to leave until we're done with it, but by 20 I want to have the whole of my cosmetics line out because that's my primary focus. I definitely won't want to be doing anything else that would make me more public."
