Krysten Ritter: 'I've never been the wallflower'
Krysten Ritter chose to pursue acting over modelling because she's always been a bit "scrappy".
The raven-haired beauty began her career in fashion, jetting around the globe for various jobs after being discovered by a modelling agent while shopping in a mall. However it was when she started performing in front of the camera, appearing in movies like 27 Dresses and Confessions of a Shopaholic, that Krysten finally found her true calling.
"(Modelling trips were) like being at camp with people that kind of looked weird and skinny like I did," she recalled to US Esquire. "The girls in high school were way worse. When you're young, your brain's not formed yet, so you just go with it.
"(Then) I went to these auditions and felt like I finally had some control over my life because I could always be better, funnier, show up on time, show up earlier. Whereas if you're a model, you just show up and people look at your pictures and that's it. I was never a wallflower. I've always been sort of scrappy."
On the set of a film or TV show is where Krysten feels most herself, and with the lead role in Netflix's Jessica Jones series the star's fame is growing bigger and bigger by the minute. Shooting the first season took around 140 days, only two of which the actress had off. With so much violence and a traumatic storyline, it was an emotional rollercoaster for Krysten.
"When I got it, my acting teacher said, 'Baby, you have your work cut out for you. We have to make sure that you are surrounded by people that take good care of you and love you'" she smiled.
Luckily for Krysten she loves playing the title misunderstood hero and won't be accepting any other roles unless they measure up to that of Jessica.
“The bar is kind of high," she added. "It’s hard for me to look at a male buddy comedy where I’m the girl rolling her eyes. Like, this sh*t."
