Kristen Stewart opens up about her sexuality after Soko split
Actress Kristen Stewart has no time for people who can't accept her undefined sexuality.
The 26-year-old Twilight star has been engaged in relationships with men and women within the past few years, and she doesn't think it's her responsibility to put a label on herself when it comes to issues of romance.
"Me not defining it right now is the whole basis of what I'm about," she tells Variety. "If you don't get it, I don't have time for you."
"There's acceptance that's become really rampant and cool," she adds. "You don't have to immediately know how to define yourself."
Rumours suggesting Kristen recently split from French singer Stephanie Sokolinski, also known as Soko, persist after the pair went public with its relationship in March (16). Before romancing Soko, the actress reportedly dated her personal assistant, Alicia Cargile, briefly after ending her five-year on/off relationship with ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson in 2013.
And while engaging in these romantic affairs, Kristen admits she struggled with her sexual identity, noting she eventually gave up trying to categorise her feelings.
"I had to have some answer about who I was," she shares about her past internal struggle. "I felt this weird responsibility, because I didn't want to seem fearful. But nothing seemed appropriate. So I was like, 'F**k, how do I define that? I'm not going to'."
Kristen has thought extensively about her role in the ongoing lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) civil rights movement, a campaign she believes is "so important" for society.
As a celebrity, she feels it's essential to send the right message to members of the community who might be agonising over sexuality issues.
"I didn't want to be this example... (but) I don't want it to seem like it was stupid for them to have a hard time," she adds.
