Kerry Washington: 'My mother doesn't sweat while watching my sex scenes'

Kerry Washington's mother can "watch a sex scene like nobody's business".

The 39-year-old actress made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday night (18Feb16) alongside Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and admitted she had to bring mother Valerie along too as she is just such a big fan of the actor's. While Game of Thrones is known for its high level of sex and violence, Kerry revealed that Valerie is entirely unfazed by raunchy footage on the programme.

"Nikolaj is her favourite," Kerry said. "She's just a huge Game of Thrones fans. No (she doesn't mind the sex and violence on the show) and it's interesting because my mother is this very elegant, graceful, intellectual but she will sit through a sex scene like nobody's business - she doesn't sweat at all!"

Kerry is also no stranger to a risque scene and has a lot of them playing Olivia Pope on TV show Scandal. She watched one such sequence with Valerie, and was once again stunned that her mother wasn't worried about seeing her little girl indulging in some steamy acts on-screen.

"Last week actually I watched our Scandal episode with her and I had like a three minute crazy sex scene with (co-star) Scott Foley and I was like sweating and fidgeting and my mother was like, 'Good work, very good work,'" Kerry laughed. "I was like, 'OK!' It's weird. I tweeted I was watching that scene with my mother and everyone was like, 'She's the best!'"

Kerry marked her 39th birthday on 31 January (16). While she had huge plans for the big day, they ended up falling through and she was left having the "perfect" evening with her husband Nnamdi Asomugha.

"I had all these grand plans like I was going to get a bunch of friends together to go and see the new Cirque de Soleil show or get a bunch of girls together and all go and see J. Lo (Jennifer Lopez) in Vegas (where she has a residency), but then I never got tickets, I wasn't on top of it," she said. "But then at the last minute I had the perfect night - my husband and I had date night at Disneyland. We were there to ring in my birthday. Disney's great for grown ups - it's the best."
