Justin Bieber broadcasts names of Orlando victims at concert

Justin Bieber honoured the victims of the Orlando shooting during his concert in the city on Thursday (30Jun16).

Gunman Omar Mateen opened fire inside the gay nightclub Pulse on 12 June (16), killing 49 people and injuring more than 50.

Justin, who refused to cancel his concert, honoured the victims with an onstage tribute as his Purpose world tour stopped in the Florida city.

During his penultimate song Purpose, a list of the victims' names began scrolling down the video screen at the back of the stage. Justin moved from the front of the stage, where he had been sitting, and stood looking at the list as if he was singing the track to the victims.

According to ETOnline, the tribute also included the name of former contestant of The Voice U.S., Christina Grimmie, who was shot and killed in Orlando two days before the nightclub tragedy (10Jun16). She was just 22 years old.

The hashtag "#OrlandoStrong", which was used on social media to show solidarity with the city, was also displayed on the backdrop. Justin shared a picture of the stage at that moment on Twitter and wrote in the caption, "Thank you for tonight. Don't ever be afraid to be yourself. #OrlandoStrong."

He had previously used the hashtag when he told fans he wouldn't be dropping his show following the incidents. He wrote, "For all those asking no I won't cancel the Orlando show. I stand with Orlando in support. Love you Orlando! #OrlandoStrong."

Justin had previously paid tribute to Christina, who was close friends with his ex Selena Gomez. He reportedly grew emotional as he sung "Grimmie, can you hear me?" while laying on his back onstage during a concert in Winnipeg, Canada on 11 June (16).

The singer has also been making headlines from his tour thanks to his embarrassing stage falls.

He recently fell through an open trapdoor in the stage, and new footage taken from his show in Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday (29Jun16) shows him kicking around in a large onstage puddle and falling on his butt.
