Julianne Hough: 'I don't worry about what people think'
Actress and dancer Julianne Hough believes her positive attitude will overcome any adversity she faces in her career.
The 27-year-old will soon take on the iconic role of Sandy in Fox production Grease: Live, but while following in the footsteps of Olivia Newton-John might scare some stars, Julianne has managed to keep her nerves under control.
"Any time I start doubting myself or looking to others for affirmation, I always say, 'All I need is within me now,'" she explained to Avon's Beauty for a Purpose. "It is such an iconic role, so at first I was nervous, but I'm honestly just so grateful and humbled to bring the character of Sandy back to life. I'm excited that I get to act, sing and dance all in one project."
Olivia Newton-John played Sandy in the classic 1978 movie alongside John Travolta, and Julianne knows she could face criticism for her version of the character, especially when her performance is going out live to the nation - but she isn't worried about it.
"A strong and powerful woman is not afraid to be who she is or worry about what others think," she continued. "When you're 100 per cent yourself, nothing is more beautiful or powerful."
Julianne first found fame as a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars, winning the show twice before moving on to acting and building a successful career for herself, with starring roles in the reboot of Footloose, as well as Rock of Ages.
"As an actress, I get to live in someone else's shoes," she said. "I feel very mentally stimulated and challenged when I'm studying for a new role - it's therapeutic and brings a lot of compassion to my life getting to know and understand parts of a character that I don't necessarily relate to."
Julianne will be joined in Grease: Live by Vanessa Hudgens, Keke Palmer and Carly Rae Jepsen, with the show set to premiere in the U.S. on 31 January (16).
