John Travolta: I couldn't do Grease live

John Travolta is in awe of the stars in 'Grease: Live'.

The 61-year-old actor famously played Danny Zuko in 1978 movie 'Grease'. On Sunday night (31.01.16), a cast including Vanessa Hudgens, Julianne Hough, Carly Rae Jepsen and Aaron Tveit will be performing the musical live on the Fox television network - a prospect that terrifies veteran performer John to his core.

He said of 'Grease: Live': "I don't know if I could do that! I did it on Broadway but I don't know if I could now do what those kids are about to do. I take my hat off to them for it."

While Grease is performed almost daily in some capacity, the new version of it breaks boundaries - something that John is thrilled about.

He added to E! News: "Every day that show is done by some school, some college, some New York production, some college, so it's a very familiar show to be done a lot. The difference is it's being done on national television, live, and that's exciting."

John's work commitments are likely to prevent him from watching the show live, but he insists: "I'm going to see it at some point."

'Grease: Live' airs in America on Sunday at 7pm on Fox.
