John Lewis Christmas' tearjerker Xmas advert
John Lewis has unveiled its 'Man on the Moon' Christmas advert.
The retail giant, that has dominated the world of festive advertising in recent years, kicked off the season with a mini-film set between space and a town on earth.
John Lewis teamed up with the charity Age UK for the tear-jerking advert which aims to highlight the isolation of elderly people living in Britain.
It features an adorable six-year-old girl who, when looking through her telescope, spots a house built in a crater on the moon.
An elderly man is then seen walking out of the house looking lost and lonely and while Lily can be seen trying to get his attention by waving.
The touching film points out that while many elderly people live on our streets, they may as well live on the moon because of the lack of interaction they experience with others.
The man can be seen sitting alone on a bench while back on earth families are preparing for Christmas day.
However, not wanting him to miss out, Lily devises a plan to show him he's not alone and attaches a gift-wrapped telescope to 13 helium filled balloons which slowly makes its way to the moon.
Upon receiving his present, the man looks through the telescope and spots the little girl waving at him.
A tear then falls down his cheek as he waves back while the Oasis song 'Half the World Away' plays in the background as sang by Danish singer Aurora.
Since the advert was unveiled this morning, celebrities have been taking to Twitter to praise it.
McBusted's Tom Fletcher wrote: "It's here! They've only gone and combined Christmas and SPACE! My gosh John Lewis! #manonthemoon"
Former 'Splash!' presenter Gabby Logan said: "Yep it got me at the end. #tears (sic)"
And 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!' runner-up and former 'X Factor' contestant Jake Quickenden added: "Ok so John Lewis advert almost brought me to tears (did) .... Done it again! now am in the Christmas mood (sic)."
