Jessica Chastain: My tears are joyful

Jessica Chastain reduced her grandmother to tears when she gifted her a house.

The stunning redhead has quickly risen through the Hollywood ranks and since her break out role in 2010's The Debt has become one of the most bankable names in the industry.

The success has never gone to Jessica's head though.

"Most of the time when I cry it's because I'm happy, or I've seen something really beautiful," Jessica confided in America's GQ magazine. "About a month ago, I went back home and I gave my grandmother a gift that she was really happy about.

"Well… I bought her a house!" she laughed after being prompted by GQ. "I surprised her; she had no idea. We pulled up to it and she was like, 'Where are we?' And I jumped out, opened her door, and told her, 'We're at your house.' She got so emotional; we both started crying. It was a beautiful moment."

2015 has been one of Jessica's biggest years to date, with the cinema release of The Martian from tomorrow (30Sep15), quickly followed by horror Crimson Peak next month (Oct15). Three further movies are also in production.

Despite her cinematic presence, not to mention her flame-coloured hair, the 38-year-old insists she's rarely hassled in private.

"A lot of people think that as an actress you can't go anywhere, that you're always getting recognised, and that your private life is just gone," she said. "That may be true for someone like Angelina Jolie or Brad Pitt, who get harassed in public a lot.

"My everyday life is the farthest thing from that. I just live normally. You can really blend in if you want to."
