Jeff Goldblum: 'Dad shared my passion for performing'

Jeff Goldblum will never forget the moment he first realised his father was proud of him.

The 63-year-old star is one of Hollywood's most admirable actors, with his body of work ranging from sci-fi flick Independence Day to comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. He always had the support of his parents growing up, especially his dad Harold, who felt an affiliation to Jeff's dream to be a performer.

"When I was seven or eight, my dad told me, 'The key to making it is to find something you love to do,'" Jeff recalled to Men's Journal. "He was a doctor, but when he was young he wanted to be an actor. I think he was amused."

"Each morning I would write on the steamy shower door, 'Please, God, let me be an actor,' and I would rub it off so that nobody would see it. One day when I got home from acting school, my dad noticed how excited I was and said, 'Yeah, this kid is stimulated.' He had never said that before. I knew he was proud."

It isn't just his professional life which is soaring at the moment; Jeff is loved up with wife Emilie Livingston, 33, who he tied the knot with in 2014. The couple welcomed their son Charlie Ocean in July last year (15). With his happy family, the thespian was quizzed on what every man should know about women - but he insists there's no secret.

"Well, I'm certainly no expert about that, but I am currently in a very happy marriage," he said. "I will say that I think interactions and relationships of all kinds fall under the creative umbrella. Trust yourself and let nature take its course. There is something in the cosmos that connects you with them and can make you infinitely curious about their mystery and beauty."
