Idris Elba: 'I gave Chris Pine a black eye'
Idris Elba gave Chris Pine a black eye during a fight scene on the set of Star Trek Beyond.
The 43-year-old Brit star, who plays villain Krall in the third instalment of the rebooted sci-fi saga, explained he had a series of intense fight scenes with co-star Chris, which got a little too rough.
"Fighting Captain Kirk was definitely like, 'What?!'" Elba told People.com at the Comic-Con premiere of the movie in San Diego, California.
"All the Captain Kirk fights are always iconic, and here I was in the middle of one. It was great! Chris Pine and I actually got a little too physical and he ended up with a black eye - which ended up in the movie, by the way!"
The 35-year-old star, who plays Captain James T. Kirk in the franchise, joked he enjoyed being punched in the face by the actor, who's being touted as the next James Bond.
"It was great," Chris laughed. "He gave me a black eye, and that was fun, and we used that. He's a big guy and we tussled and threw some fake punches. All in a day's work!"
The premiere for the movie, which is the 13th Star Trek film, was an emotional event, as the stars paid tribute to late cast members original Spock Leonard Nimoy and Anton Yelchin, who played Chekov.
Producer J.J. Abrams gave a poignant speech before the film began, and a moment of silence was held. Leonard died in February last year (15) at the age of 83, just months before filming on Star Trek Beyond was due to begin.
Anton passed away last month (Jun16) aged 27 after a freak car accident outside his Los Angeles home.
