Hugh Grant 'cried for three weeks' during 2007 meltdown
Hugh Grant went to therapy after he "went mad" in 2007 and couldn't stop crying for three weeks.
The Notting Hill actor has revealed he saw therapists and a hypnotist in 2007 after he "got massaged into madness" during a boring holiday in the Maldives and he left the islands feeling "a little strange" but he felt much worse when he boarded the plane.
"I went mad in 2007... I got on the plane to go home, open a newspaper reading the football results - and burst into tears," the 55-year-old told U.S. host James Corden. "And I couldn't stop crying for three weeks. It was completely absurd... I'd go to a cafe and they'd say, 'You want skimmed milk or regular?' and I'd burst into tears. So I went to see shrinks then."
He also recalled a meeting with a hypnotist that failed because he couldn't achieve the relaxed state needed for the therapy to be effective. Instead, as the hypnotist tried to soothe him into relaxation, he just became more tense and aware of his surroundings.
"I'm totally miserable and self-conscious but because I'm English and polite I can't say that so I go, 'Yes, I'm very relaxed,'" he joked.
During the Thursday night (04Aug16) show, Hugh was joined by actress Bryce Dallas Howard, who talked about her childhood ability to correctly guess the genders of people's expectant babies and Hugh joked about his own children by adding, "Predict mine... they're out of control!"
When the Jurassic World actress asks how many he has, he replied, "Well, four at the last count but I can't stop!"
Hugh became a first-time father in 2011 when his ex-girlfriend Tinglan Hong gave birth to their daughter, Tabitha. A year later, in September, 2012, his current girlfriend Anna Eberstein had his son John, and just months later Tinglan gave birth to his third baby, son Felix. He most recently welcomed another daughter in December (15) with Anna, whose name has not been revealed.
