Hugh Grant: 'Affairs are the secret to a happy marriage'

Hugh Grant believes affairs are the key to a lasting marriage.

The British actor has never married, though his relationships have made countless headlines over the years, such as being caught and arrested in the middle of a sex act with a prostitute in 1995.

He’s currently with girlfriend Anna Eberstein, who he has been dating on and off for over four years and has a son and daughter with, but has no plans to tie the knot, as he doesn’t think humans are meant to be in “40-year-long monogamous, faithful” relationships. In fact, Hugh, 55, feels marriage closes people off, and those who do choose to walk down the aisle last longer with infidelity.

"I always admire the French and the Italians who are very devoted to their marriages," Hugh, who also has another daughter and son with ex-girlfriend Tinglan Hong, said during Howard Stern's SiriusXM show. "They take them extremely seriously, but it is understood that there might be other visitors at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. You just never boast about. They never say anything, but that's what keeps marriages together."

This was just one of many revelations the Love Actually star uncovered during his interview with the radio DJ. Another fact he shared was that although he has an agent now, for four years he created a fake one called James Howe Ealy, who was simply Hugh using a fake email address.

"He didn't exist. It was me on a different email account," the actor laughed. "I saved myself an absolute fortune."

But the illusion didn’t last long as Hugh found it difficult to hide behind his alter ego when people asked to meet James in person. There was also the fact that he’d sometimes sign off an email as ‘Hugh’ when drunk, leading to the true identity of his agent.
