Gwyneth Paltrow: Why did my dad have to die?
Gwyneth Paltrow is still rattled over her father’s sudden death.
The 42-year-old Academy Award-winning actress’ dad Bruce Paltrow lost his life in 2002 after suffering complications associated with cancer and pneumonia.
Bruce was just 58 years old when he died. And at a recent #BlogHer15 luncheon in New York City, Gwyneth admitted his demise is something she grapples with to this day.
“When I was 10 years old, my mother was doing a television movie in London. My dad took me to Paris during her shoot. We stayed in this beautiful hotel in the Latin Quarter,” Gwyneth recalled, photographer Bettina Cirone reported to Page Six.
“While we were there, my dad asked me, ‘Do you know why I took you here? I want to be the first man to take you here because I am the man who has from the moment you were born — and will always — love you. Then, the f***er died.”
Gwyneth is the leader of online lifestyle brand GOOP and in addition to acting she has become somewhat of a health guru.
The star has spoken in the past about how her late father influences what she decides to do professionally.
“It’s like, I’m a busy mum and I work and I think it’s so important to make food for your family and the people you love and just to have that time together,” she told US talk show host Rachael Ray while promoting her cookbook, My Father’s Daughter. “It’s something my dad taught me and it was really the impetus for the book because when we’d all gather around the table it was the high point of the day.”
