Gwyneth Paltrow talks lubing up in awkward newsletter sex issue
Gwyneth Paltrow is raving about homemade lubrication in her goop.com newsletter.
The lifestyle site's first ever "sex issue" was unveiled on Monday (09May16), and the actress revealed it was inspired by "a recipe for homemade lube" devised by her friend Frankie Bergstein.
"(She) wanted a non-toxic product but couldn't find one on the market (popular brands are full of parabens and palm oil...)," Gwyneth writes. "After some hands-on research and a few trips to the farmers market, she made one herself.
"Frankie says this 100% organic formulation, made from yams, citrus seeds, and coconut oil, will turn the driest of deserts into your own personal slip 'n slide. Unfortunately, her proprietary formula isn't available yet, so we set out to find a lube that comes close and meets the standards of the goop clean beauty shop - and to the joy of parched vaginas everywhere, we did.
"As we worked through the line-up for the issue, we all came to believe that it's one of the more important ones we've sent. In part, because it made us feel awkward, and shy, and like we were doing something dangerous - when we intellectually know that it shouldn't be that way, that female sexuality isn't taboo, that it isn't embarrassing, and that it shouldn't be wrapped up in so much shame.
"Even though so many of us have been trained to blush, and giggle, and joke, and duck our eyes. I have those exact same impulses."
She goes on to explain that in the new issue of goop, the actress and her team "wanted to explore sexuality from all angles", adding, "Acceptance of our sexuality brings us closer to total self-acceptance in general - we can't truly understand ourselves without understanding and embracing that part, too."
