Gina Rodriguez needed a new look after tough movie role
Gina Rodriguez dyed her hair blonde to escape from her character in Annihilation.
The Jane the Virgin star cut her hair and shaved the side of her head for the new film, in which she plays a biologist on a secret expedition, and she decided she needed a new look to start fresh.
"The character that I played in this last film, Annihilation, was really hardcore and really different than anything I've ever done to be very honest, and... when I came back (from filming) I just couldn't not see the character, so I was like, 'I'm going blonde'," she tells Access Hollywood. "I've kind of always wanted to, you know? 'Cause I feel like every girl wants to (go blonde) once in their life."
For the film, Gina fashioned her hair after actress Ruby Rose's signature do.
"I'm cutting all my hair off and dyeing it - cutting as in a Ruby Rose cut," she told PeopleStyle. "This is gonna be my first transition in not rocking long hair."
The lovely Latina, a natural brunette, admitted she was a little nervous about the chop because she rarely does anything to her tresses.
"I have (dyed it) in the past for a role," she recalled. "I had to dye it blonde. I didn't bleach it and rather just did temporary colour for the movie itself. But outside of that, I've never done anything like this."
"I get compliments (on my hair) all the time, and that's what actually really scares me about cutting my hair," she continued. "(But) I'll live."
However, she was ultimately happy with the cut.
"Short hair, don't care," she wrote on Instagram.com earlier this year (16). "Ha. Not true. It'll take some adjusting. I'll just be a little crazy till the fairy dust settles!"
