George Clooney: "Julia Roberts is like family"

George Clooney is so close to Julia Roberts he considers her part of his extended family.

The stars appear alongside each other in new movie Money Monster after having previously worked together on Ocean's Eleven and Ocean's Twelve, and George insists their relationship has moved far beyond just being work colleagues.

"We met on Ocean's," he told People Magazine. "We had actually never met before. People just thought we had."

From there, their lives became intertwined, with Julia staying at the 55-year-old's home in Lake Como, Italy when she was pregnant with her twins, Hazel and Phinnaeus, now 11.

"She brought all those monsters back to the house when they were actual human beings and we've had a blast with them," George added, also referring to Julia's eight-year-old son Henry.

Their 15-year friendship also means George has had the chance to bond with Julia's cameraman husband Danny Moder, who she married in 2002.

"Danny and I are great friends and love each other," said George. "What's fun is it's really like a family. It makes it easy. It's really fun to go, 'Hey, let's do this movie together'."

For Julia, 48, the feeling is mutual - she is grateful to have the fellow Oscar winner in her life, and she's pleased to see him so happy with his wife Amal.

"What he's saying is we've just stitched our lives closer together," she said. "All these people that come into our lives; my husband, my children, his wife. We just keep stitching our lives closer together."

The pair attended the Cannes Film Festival last week (ends13May16) to promote their latest movie, and the time together in France reminded the two stars how much they like each other's company.

"What a relief we're not Hollywood friends," Julia added.
