George Clooney: 'Friendship and social media keeps marriage strong'

Friendship is the key to George Clooney and wife Amal’s happy marriage.

The couple wed in 2014 after a whirlwind engagement, and the pair are happier than ever as husband and wife. George reveals the secret to their solid union is their strong connection.

“Having the same interests and similar outlooks is one of the basic things that makes us very happy being together,” he smiled to Britain’s Hello! magazine. “We have a very strong connection and she’s an extraordinary woman doing great work. We’re both committed and share a common concern for causes like the refugee crisis, but what really brings us together as a couple is the fact that we’re good friends and we enjoy each other’s company. I think that having the same interests and similar outlooks is one of the basic things that makes us very happy being together.”

Hollywood heavyweight George was thought of as one of the industry’s eternal bachelors before he met British lawyer Amal, and while some doubted their romance, The Descendants actor has proved the haters wrong.

Aside from their emotional closeness, 54-year-old George admits being physically close to Amal, 38, also strengthens their relationship.

“We have a rule whereby we are never apart for more than a week,” he shared. “We also stay in touch via social media so we try to keep close even if we’re in different parts of the world. We have a place in London now where it’s easy for us to spend a lot of time together and I can work on new film projects, or we go to Lake Como or spend time in Los Angeles when I need to have meetings for my acting work, or hang around with some of my friends.”
