George Clooney ‘buys eatery for Amal’
George Clooney reportedly bought his wife a restaurant for their first wedding anniversary.
The 54-year-old actor wanted to pull out all the stops to celebrate 365 days of marriage, after tying the knot with human rights lawyer Amal in September last year (14). The couple enjoy relaxing together over a good meal, so George apparently decided to splash out an entire eatery for his spouse.
“Amal loves the Asanebo sushi restaurant near their LA home,” a source told Britain’s Now magazine. “She always complains there’s nowhere as good in London, so since last year George has been in talks with the head chef and owner Tetsuya Nakao about opening a London branch. He wants to make sure Amal can always have access to their favourite dishes when she’s at home in London.
“As well as paying £300,000 for rent and equipment, George will promote the restaurant. He knows
it’s a good deal for Tetsuya, who’s a good friend of his. They also think it’ll be really successful in terms of business.”
It seems George also intends to play an important role in finalising the menu. He reportedly wants to make sure Amal will have everything she could wish for when she visits the eatery.
“It’ll serve all of Amal’s favourite dishes, of course,” the insider explained. “These include the halibut sashimi with truffles, Brussels sprouts salad with seared scallop, hamachi with seaweed and cod lettuce wrap. George has insisted that they always have the very best fresh fish too.”
George and Amal fittingly celebrated their first anniversary at a restaurant in Los Angeles, giving the Hollywood star the perfect opportunity to hand over his thoughtful gift. Explaining that he had kept with tradition by buying a paper present for Amal, George apparently revealed his grand plans.
“George presented Amal with the documents for the London restaurant,” the source added. “The gift is unorthodox, but it’s perfect for Amal. She loves it."
George kept his extravagant gift under wraps when recently quizzed about his first wedding anniversary plans. “We sure are having fun,” he smiled on the red carpet for the 15th anniversary screening of his movie O Brother, Where Art Thou? in New York in September (15). “We had a beautiful anniversary and we’re having fun.”
