Gal Gadot's bewilderment over Wonder Woman role
Gal Gadot "went dead for five seconds" after finding out she'd be auditioning for Wonder Woman.
The 30-year-old actress steps into the shoes of the crime-fighting siren in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, opposite Henry Cavill as the outer space hero and Ben Affleck as the caped crusader. Receiving the offer came as a shock to Israeli star Gal, who admits she had to contain her excitement at first.
“I did an audition, I didn’t know what I was auditioning for,” Gal recalled to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, adding she was invited to read a script with director Zack Snyder.
“And then they call to say that they want to camera test me with Ben. I said ‘Great, what am I testing for?’ And they said, 'Well honestly we have no idea, but expect a phone call from Zack Snyder.'
“Same night... Zack calls me, saying, ‘Well, I’m not sure if you have it in Israel but did you ever hear of Wonder Woman?’ Then I went dead for five seconds, came back to life, and tried to pull off my coolest voice, saying ‘Wonder Woman? Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard of her.'"
Gal was quietly confident after her test opposite Ben, admitting she hoped for a verdict from Zack soon after. However, she ended up waiting a fortnight for the filmmaker to get back to her and the good news ended up getting through after a flight from her home country to America.
“And then the moment the airplane landed, I saw 30 missed calls from my agents,” she explained. "So I called them, while sitting in the seat still, and then they said, 'Well, you can't say anything to anyone yet but you got the part!' And then I went, 'AHHHHHH!' And everyone looked at me, and I couldn't say anything. "
She now feels like the "luckiest girl in the world" and is set to reprise her role in her own movie next year (17).
