Eva Mendes on Hunchback name inspiration
Eva Mendes has explained why The Hunchback of Notre Dame inspired her daughter’s name.
The 41-year-old actress and her partner Ryan Gosling welcomed baby girl Esmeralda into the family in September 2014.
And during an interview with Wendy Williams on Wednesday, Eva provided detailed background information on the significance of her daughter’s moniker.
“We love The Hunchback of Notre Dame, we loved the name, the cartoon and the novel [by Victor Hugo]… it just kind of kept coming back to us,” she said of her and Ryan’s name selection process. “It’s actually a very popular Latin name, so it’s easy for my father and certain family members that still don’t speak English to pronounce. That was a good selling point.”
Eva is very close with her huge family and relatives are helping the Girl in Progress star raise Esmeralda.
Eva greatly appreciates her loved ones’ contribution.
“I’ve never appreciated my family so much, they’ve been amazing,” she gushed to host Wendy. “I don’t technically have a nanny, but I do have help. I’m certainly not anti-nanny, you do what you need to do as a parent, but I’m so grateful that I have help with my family and [Ryan’s] family.”
Eva also recently claimed the presence of loved ones is proving to remind the stunning brunette of her own wonderful upbringing.
“When my mum and sisters visit, they take over the house. They take my baby! They start cleaning everything! They sound like a bunch of hyenas, yelling in Spanish, English, Spanglish. They sing [my daughter Esmeralda] all these Cuban nursery songs that I forgot my mum used to sing to me,” she explained to Glam Belleza Latina magazine. “They’re like a raucous crew… It’s incredible. I really appreciate my family, now more than ever. I’m so happy that my little girl gets to grow up with this.”
