Empire's Grace and Trai 'engaged'

Empire co-stars Grace Gealey and Trai Byers are reportedly engaged.

The actress plays Anika Calhoun in the US TV drama, with Trai portraying Andre Lyon, who is the son of Anika's love interest Lucious.

Grace celebrated her 31st birthday on Sunday and it's been claimed Trai organised the surprise to end them all: a proposal.

"He surprised her on her birthday,” an insider told Us Weekly. “He popped the question and she was totally surprised and elated. She can’t stop looking at the ring! They celebrated all night.”

The news comes as something of a shock as it was only reported that the couple were dating in March.

The pair celebrated Grace's birthday with some of their Empire co-stars, with the bash thought to be inspired by the TV show. Both posted pictures to their social media sites, including one of tins emblazoned with the programme's title.

Trai appeared to hint something monumental had gone on, telling fans how special the night had been as he captioned a picture of the frivolities.

"Had so much fun [email protected]'s's life!! Happy Birthday to an exquisite human being! Thank [email protected] for hosting us. Amazing spot, wonderful food, UNFORGETTABLE night (sic)," he wrote.

Grace appeared to have just as good a time, using a picture of her posing with friends and blowing out candles on a cake to show fans what she'd been up to.

"To all who sent greetings, called, messaged and came out to celebrate yesterday, thank you. It was an incredibly unforgettable day. And looking forward to an incredibly unforgettable year," she wrote.

Empire stars Terrence Howard as Lucious, the head of a music company who is hand picking one of his sons to take over. It co-stars Taraji P. Henson and has been a huge hit, with 17.62 million people tuning in for the US season one finale in March.
