Emma Watson: Silence helped with split
Emma Watson visited a silent retreat before her split from Matt Janney.
Emma and her rugby player ex went their separate ways last December, after nearly a year of dating.
The Harry Potter star isn’t one to divulge too much about her private life, but has opened up to British Vogue about how she got over her heartbreak.
“I felt really uncomfortable, even before my relationship ended, I went on a silent retreat, because I really wanted to figure out how to be at home with myself,” she told the fashion glossy.
Calling the split “horrendous”, Emma sought solace in Canada’s Rocky Mountains just before the romance ended, at a retreat which implements a week-long silence vow.
Since finding fame as wizard Hermione Granger at 11, Emma has had numerous rumoured romances. Luckily her fame hasn’t put anyone off, and she has fond memories of her past loves.
“The boyfriends or partners I've had have generally made me feel really cherished. They've built me up. I certainly haven't found that with doing all that I do or being all that I am, that I've struggled in my love life. I just think it's very patronising towards men. It undermines them,” she stated.
Becoming an A-lister was never something Emma thought would happen to her, and she’s more than aware that stardom has two sides.
"I’ve just always been aware that it was a bit of a double-edged sword. I think I never really thought necessarily I’d become an actress or become famous," she previously told Total Film magazine.
"It’s something I felt very passive in. It was something that happened to me. They came to my school. They saw me and they took photographs of me. I was taken up to London [UK] to audition."
