Elijah Wood on Back to the Future II predictions
Actor Elijah Wood is amazed at how many prophecies from Back to the Future Part II have come true.
The American star is one of many people celebrating the popular 1989 film, which saw Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Dr. Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd) travel to the future date of Wednesday the 21st of October 2015. Looking back at the predictions it made, Elijah, who had a small cameo in the flick, has discussed how accurate they were.
"It was 1989 I think," Elijah recalled to talk show host Conan O'Brien. "They've got flat screens, they've got video conferencing, we don't have flying cars... but many of these things have come true. (People are excited) that the prophecies are coming true.
"That's right (it was my first scene in a film), I was eight years old - eight. Tiny (part), in the back of the cafe '80s trying to work a video game and Michael J. Fox's character, Marty McFly, comes over, works (it) for us, and declares it's like a baby's toy because he has to use his hands. You don't do that in the future! A hell of a thing to appear in; Back to the Future II, it's incredible."
Elijah also had a laugh at his own expense after Conan showed the clip of his scene. In it, the much younger actor is seen wearing a comical green netted cap resembling a colander, while his friend sports a fluorescent yellow hat. Elijah, now 34, admits he's relieved that particular fashion trend didn't ever materialise.
Meanwhile, the movie's two leads recently reunited to discuss what the feature correctly predicted. And Christopher, who turns 77 on Thursday (22Oct15), loved every minute of working with Michael. “We had such a good time,” he told Entertainment Weekly on reuniting with Michael. “There’s a really strong mutual admiration between us, and I love Michael and the work he does and his whole personality. He’s an extraordinary person. We really enjoy our time together. It was fate.”
