Dylan O'Brien: Rejection reduced me to tears

Maze Runner star Dylan O'Brien used to cry after unsuccessful auditions.

The 24-year-old actor is one of Hollywood's hottest newcomers after landing the part of Thomas in the adventure franchise.

While he's made a big success of himself now, the road to the top was rocky and he was turned away many times. Luckily, the determined star fought his way through.

"I was totally down for a while and even cried," he admitted to German magazine Bravo. "I was even turned away from my first Maze Runner audition because my hair was too long. But I didn't give up and I got the role in the end."

Maze Runner has proved a launch pad for Dylan, who has now scored a part in thriller Deepwater Horizon. Also starring Mark Wahlberg and Kate Hudson, it looks set to be one of next year's (16) hottest releases.

Dylan is lucky enough to be living his dream, but he had some words of advice for anyone unsure about their career.

"Take a close look at what you do during your spare time," he said. "What do you spend your weekends doing? What do you get the most enjoyment out of? These activities could help you understand where your passions lie. And if you truly love something, do it!"

Being an actor of course means Dylan has had to get used to kissing people in front of the camera. He has steamy scenes with Kaya Scodelario in The Maze Runner, but in real life he's dating Britt Robertson.

"For us, kissing on screen is just acting, so you're distracted by that more than anything — at least I am. I'm always coming away from those things going like, "I wonder how I kissed just now." Because I have no idea, I'm just thinking about what's happening," he said of smooching Kaya.
