Dolly Parton excited to renew wedding vows with husband for 50th anniversary
Country music star Dolly Parton is pulling out all the stops for her marriage vow renewal ceremony.
The 70-year-old will celebrate her 50th wedding anniversary with husband Carl Dean in July, and the couple is planning a romantic ceremony to celebrate its enduring love, and like everything with Dolly, it will be an over-the-top and glamorous affair.
"How many people can say they've been married 50 years? We've made it this long, we need to do it again," she told Rolling Stone. "(Her creative director and clothing designer) Steve Summers designed my dress and he bought Carl a really beautiful suit, so we're all ready. My dress is kind of off-white. I've always wanted a big beautiful dress, the whole thing."
Dolly has also decided to renew their wedding rings to mark the occasion.
"These are my old wedding rings and I never wanted to change them," she explained. "My husband and I bought these rings on his mother's credit card and paid for them until we paid them off."
The singer now wears her old ring on her right hand to make room for the impressive rock she has had designed for her ring finger on her left hand.
"I had this one done up for the new wedding," she said. "It's three-and-a-half carats. I had it made out in L.A."
No expense is being spared for the Nashville, Tennessee ceremony and kind-hearted Dolly is making sure all proceeds from the wedding pictures benefit her Imagination Library charity, which helps to fight illiteracy by giving books to children.
"We'll take some pictures so people can actually see Carl and how he looks," she laughed regarding her famously press-shy spouse. "The whole thing is really going to be special."
