Daniel Radcliffe has no plans to see Harry Potter play

Daniel Radcliffe isn't planning to attend J.K. Rowling's new Harry Potter play.

The 26-year-old rose to stardom by playing the boy wizard in the Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011.

However he has no plans to see how his character evolves as an adult in the top secret London stage show Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, because he worries his presence will prove distracting for the audience.

"It would be a weird one," Daniel told America's E! News. "I could be completely wrong in this, but I feel like if I went to see it that night, there's going to be a lot of Harry Potter fans there in the audience obviously and would that then become a thing?

"Would it be more about them watching me watch the show or would it take away from the show. I would never want to do anything that would distract or take away from the show."

When asked at the premiere of his new film Now You See Me 2 in New York City whether he'll make time to watch the play he added, "I don't know. I'm busy doing a play here at the moment, but I'm not sure."

As well as promoting the film, in which he plays a technology expert who assists magicians, alongside co-stars Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg and Lizzy Caplan, Daniel is currently gearing up to star in stage show Privacy, about a man's interactions online, at The Public Theater in Manhattan.

Unusually producers of the play, which opens on 5 July (16), have requested audience members keep their mobile phones on throughout performances to create an interactive experience.

As for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is performed in two sections, the new show had its first preview performance on Tuesday (07Jun16), with fans giving the play a thumbs up.

On Wednesday Harry Potter author Rowling wrote, "So, reaction to first preview was... wonderful. Feedback is fans really do want to #KeepTheSecrets for each other's sake."

After Harry Potter and the Cursed Child's preview shows, the two part play officially opens on 30 July (16), with its initial run at the Palace Theatre concluding on 27 May next year (17).
