Colin Farrell bored by cheeseburgers

Colin Farrell grew bored of stuffing his face with cheeseburgers while piling on weight for The Lobster.

The Irish actor stars in the dystopian comedy drama as architect David, who has to find his perfect partner in The Hotel or else he'll be transformed into an animal. Colin packed on a pot belly for his role and gained a staggering 47lbs. in just eight weeks thanks to his rigorous eating regime.

“I had a list of restaurants that I wanted to go to and then after about two days it got pretty dull having cheeseburgers at eight o’clock in the morning and stuff," he said, according to Britain's The Sun newspaper.

Colin had so little time to gain weight that he had to eat at all hours of the day and night. He'd often wake up at 3am to chomp down on custard cream biscuits and guzzle Coca Cola, admitting he kept shoving down sugar, cheese, bread and pasta too. Luckily the end results were impressive enough to justify the preparation.

“It was so gluttonous," he recalled. "It was a bit messy really. But it was just for the job, so I knew: eight weeks in, eight weeks out, eight weeks in the middle to shoot."

Although he was dedicated to the project, Colin previously admitted he doesn't fully understand what The Lobster is about. He concluded that the odd tale, also starring Rachel Weisz and Léa Seydoux, focuses on how humans handle loneliness. Being single could be a reason why Colin was drawn to the unique story.

"Being alone is a difficult state to be in at times," he previously told Britain's Hello! magazine. "There’s also a stigma that comes with not being in a relationship. For me it was a deeply moving experience and the kind of thing I thrive on as an actor. Everything about working on the film was very special.”
