Claudia Winkleman's campaign changes costume standards

Claudia Winkleman's campaign has changed supermarket fire safety standards of fancy dress.

The 'Strictly Come Dancing' presenter - who teamed up with BBC One's 'Watchdog' campaign after her eight-year-old daughter Matilda suffered severe burns when her witch costume caught alight last Halloween - has achieved success as Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda are now applying stricter costume testing rules.

Speaking out about how fancy dress outfits will now go through the same procedures as toys, the 42-year-old star shared: "I love Sainsbury's for it. Others are doing it too. I had to do something."

Claudia - who also has sons Arthur and Jake with husband Kris Thykier - has prompted a change of policy which Sainsbury's clothing director James Brown admits is "the right thing to do".

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "The safety of children is our number one priority and introducing more rigorous safety standards is the right thing to do."

The brunette beauty previously opened up about the traumatic incident which saw Matilda treated in hospital for her injuries.

She said: "It was like horrific birthday candles you blow out and they come back. It was really, really fast, not fire like I'd seen.

"I'd like parents on Halloween to think about what they're going to put their kids in, because I didn't, and it cost us."
