Ciara: Ex’s parenting criticism is hypocritical

Ciara has hit back at her ex-fiancé Future’s criticism of her parenting skills, calling them a “double standard”.

The 29-year-old came under fire from the father of her 15-month-old son, Future, after her new boyfriend Russell Wilson was photographed pushing his pushchair. Future Snr. claimed it was disrespectful for any man to be close to another male’s offspring at such a young age, but Ciara thinks his comments are ridiculous.

“It's been very interesting to hear what a lot of guys have to say," she said on CBS This Morning on Wednesday, “It's a bit of a double standard. When we were together, I took care of his kids as well at a very young time in our relationship."

Ciara and Future became engaged in October 2013 but called it off in August last year. The rapper has three other biological children and an adopted child from previous relationships. Considering the interaction she had with them from the start of their courtship, Ciara doesn’t understand how Russell’s bond with her little boy is any different.

“I was involved [with his other children] very early in the stage of us getting to know each other," she said. "That's been a big conversation, like, 'What's the difference here?' I think that even for the men that are outspoken - wouldn't you want someone to love on your child? Or love on the child you're speaking about?"

Following Future’s interview with The Breakfast Club last month, Ciara did try to get her ex to engage with the Seattle Seahawks quarterback, but to no avail.

“I did reach out to my son's father for him and Russell to speak, and he didn't want to talk to me. We didn't get to talk, and so that was that,” she added. "I don't know what more they would expect me to do than just live my life. That's what I'm doing and my son is the most important.”
