Chris Hemsworth: 'I'm very popular with prison inmates!'

Chris Hemsworth got heckled by all kinds of inmates as he marched his way through a prison for research.

The 32-year-old actor is well-known for his role playing the titular superhero in Marvel's Thor franchise films and while preparing for his part in hacker movie Blackhat, the star was surprised by the reception he received at a penitentiary.

"I'm trying to blend in, doing 'research,' and I'm just getting heckled left and right. 'Yo, come spend some time in my cell, baby!'" he laughed during an appearance on UK talk programme The Graham Norton Show.

Chris was intent on being incognito before entering the facility, but having to forfeit a key fashion accessory blew his cover.

"The wardens said, 'You can't wear your hat,' and so on, and I said, 'OK, no worries,'" he recalled. "I thought, 'Oh s**t, they're going to know who I am.' Then I thought, 'No, they don't get 'Thor' in here, they're not going to watch movies'. I don't know. I'd never been to prison. I assumed that.

"And the moment I started walking through the cells … I just start getting heckled. It's like, 'Yo, yo, Thor's here, man. Yo, Thor's here. Yo, Thor, Thor! Where's your hammer, man?'"

Chris is currently promoting his new film In the Heart of the Sea, a historical drama based on the true story of men who were stranded in the ocean for 90 days after a sperm whale attacked their ship.

In the Heart of the Sea, also starring Tom Holland, Ben Whishaw and Cillian Murphy, reaches American theatres on 11 December (15).
